About us
Indian Association of Assistive Technologists (IAAT) is the national association of health and allied health professionals working in the field of rehabilitation of Persons with disabilities (PWD) and Older Persons (who live with impairments). IAAT is registered under the India Societies Act 1960. IAAT aims to evolve state-of-the-art approaches for the care of differently-abled people through services, education and research. The 300 life members of IAAT are qualified professionals who are engaged in providing assistive technology (AT) for a range of disabilities and impairments. They come from various streams of health and allied healthcare such as doctors, Prosthetists & Orthotists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, AT manufacturers and students of allied health sciences. Of them, 20% are women.
IAAT is a member of Global Alliance of Assistive Technology Organizations (GAATO) whose mission is “to advance the field of assistive technology and rehabilitation engineering to benefit people with disabilities and functional limitations of all ages”.[1] Mr. Tarit Datta President is the board member of GAATO.
History
A group of like minded highly professionals feels that the critical functional barrier for the person with disabilities in India specially senior citizens are not properly or specially addressed in spite of good numbers of professionals are available in India. A sincere thought of the group is given that it need to improve the quality of life through under a bigger umbrella in assistive technology. Discussed the matter in the group and decided to established an association with all supportive stake holders in Kolkata 2016.
